What does my sketch actually need to contain?
Three dimensions and one decision. Width and height define the fixture’s footprint; drop length defines how far it hangs below the ceiling, and it is the number most often left off a reference photograph. The decision is material, because a shape that works in blown glass may not be buildable in solid brass at the same size. Everything else — finish, fabric, colour temperature — can be settled during the drawing stage without delaying it.
A reference photograph with no dimensions is the single most common cause of an extra drawing round, which typically adds 5 to 7 days.
What does the engineering review actually check?
Two things: whether the fixture can be wired and supported safely at the size requested, and whether it can be manufactured as drawn. A design can fail on either. A wide horizontal fixture may need a different suspension arrangement than the sketch implies; a thin section in a heavy material may not hold. The review happens before production, and a design that fails comes back with the specific problem identified rather than being built as drawn and shipped.
